Entering New Territory: My First Time in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ – Between Vision, Change, and Warmth

Published on November 4, 2025

There are journeys that show you new places. And there are journeys that open up new perspectives.

My delegation trip to Malaysia was definitely the latter! A journey into new territory, in every sense of the word. Even the arrival in Kuala Lumpur was an experience in itself:

The city was alive with anticipation for the ASEAN Summit, as heads of state from all over the world arrived — including President Donald Trump, who landed almost at the same time as we did. For a few days, Malaysia became the center of geopolitical and economic attention — and we were right in the middle of it.

A Country Full of Energy, Openness, and Ambition

Malaysia immediately impressed me through its friendly, ambitious, and deeply optimistic people.

A country that doesn’t just talk, but acts. A country that shapes its own future.

The national vision is clearly defined: by 2030, Malaysia aims to establish 3,000 smart factories and position itself as a leading industrial nation in Southeast Asia.

Digitalization, sustainability, and education are seen here not as isolated goals but as part of one holistic strategy.

You can feel this attitude in every encounter, whether in conversations with entrepreneurs, visits to industrial innovation centers, or discussions during the conference.

Malaysia demonstrates how to shape the future instead of fearing it.

A Delegation that Created Impact – Driven by Cooperation and Curiosity

For me, it was my first delegation trip and it could hardly have been better organized.

Together with the OAV (German Asia-Pacific Business Association), the AMENA Invest, and the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce (AHK Malaysia), a delegation came together that was characterized by genuine collaboration and mutual respect.

What impressed me most was the openness of the dialogue, the quality of the discussions, and the willingness to learn from one another.

My own contribution to the program, the talk “Shaping AI-Driven Logistics Futures” at the Industry 4.0 Supply Chain Logistics Forum at the Sunway Resort Hotel, was a highlight (at least for me 😊).

Together with experts from Germany, Malaysia and Singapore, we discussed how Artificial Intelligence is transforming logistics from complexity to autonomy.

Malaysia is not a bystander in this process! it’s an active shaper of this transformation.

From the World’s Longest Quay Wall to Modern Food-Tech Factories

The journey took us from the impressive quay wall at Westports at Port Klang  â€” one of Asia’s longest and most advanced port facilities — to innovative production sites in the food industry.

Westports - Port Klang Malaysia

At ALP (Ally Logistics Property Malaysia), we witnessed Malaysia’s determination to set new standards in logistics! From smart cold-chain management to digitally connected distribution centers.

A presentation from Infineon Technologies Malaysia during the conference also demonstrated impressively how Industry 4.0, AI, and automation are already working together productively today — not as a vision, but as a reality.

Very impressive as well the Frozen Food Manaufacturer kaWan Food! The factory looked for me almost the same as any German Food Manufacturing factory! With clear ambition to optimize further in AI, Robotics and Pick Automation! Same efficiency with much lower cost compared to us!!! Bold and friendly people shaping their future!

More Than Technology: A Country with a Mindset

What makes Malaysia truly special is its positive attitude towards change.

While in Europe people often discuss the risks, here the conversation focuses on possibilities on opportunities, collaboration, and the power of shared ambition.

This optimistic yet pragmatic mentality, combined with clear political goals and an openness to international cooperation, creates an environment where innovation truly thrives.

Malaysia shows that technological transformation only succeeds when it begins with people.

Conclusion: New Territory Always Begins in the Mind

This journey made one thing clear to me:

New territory isn’t a place! It’s a mindset.

It’s about staying curious, embracing the unknown, and building bridges — between people, processes, and technologies. Malaysia impressed me not only through its innovative strength but also through its human warmth.

In a time when many are talking about uncertainty, I found confidence and determination there.

For our Shift³ Community, that’s a powerful message:

Transformation begins where we are willing to take new paths — openly, with curiosity, and with the conviction that the future can only be built together.

💡 Final Thought:

This delegation trip was not an ending! It was a beginning. A beginning for new collaborations, new ideas, new concret projects and the courage to keep entering new territories as I did the last 25 years!
